Summary

This study investigates the construction of cohesive and complex writing among advanced Saudi EFL university students. Specifically, the aim of this study is to explore the types of Themes as initial elements in sentences and how students employ them to build textual cohesion and coherence in their writing.

Nagla S. Alqaedi, Cardiff University; Saudi Electronic University

Nagla Alqaedi is currently a Ph.D. student in Language and Communication at Cardiff University, UK. She is an English lecturer at Saudi Electronic University, Saudi Arabia. She holds a BA in English Language and Translation, and two master’s degrees: an MA in TESL from Gonzaga University, USA and an MA in Language and Communication from Cardiff University.
