Summary

This article provides an example of a project-based learning on the theme of air pollution with primary students from 12 to 13 years of age in EFL lessons using the STEAM approach. The primary objective was for the students to research the causes and effects of air pollution in their community and hence become more engaged in community issues, apply scientific research to issues meaningful to them, and learn to protect themselves from air pollutants.

Jasmina Stuhli, Kiseljak Primary School

Jasmina Stuhli is a graduate of English Language and Literature Department at the University of Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She gained her Masters with a thesis in contrastive analysis. She has been teaching English in primary school since 2006, continually broadening her knowledge of contemporary models and techniques of teaching, which she then applies in her classroom. She frequently shares her experience as a teacher trainer at local seminars or presenter at regional and international conferences.  In recent years, she has focused on applying the STEAM approach in her English lessons, as she strongly believes this interdisciplinary approach equips students with practical knowledge and skills they can apply in everyday life, but also fosters their critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
