Summary

This article examines using UDL to enhance English language development in multilingual learners, focusing on implementing technology. By providing insights into effective UDL implementation, it aims to support educators and practitioners in empowering MLLs to achieve language proficiency and academic success. Drawing on research, we explore the benefits and challenges of UDL implementation for MLLs and ESL/EFL contexts, offer potential strategies for UDL and technology integration, and provide a practical example with CommonLit integration.

Ali Asiri, Washington State University

Ali Asiri is a Ph.D. student in the Language, Literacy, and Technology program at Washington State University. He has a BA in English Language, and an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from Gonzaga University, and he is now pursuing a Ph.D. degree with a focus on Educational Technology for English Language teachers. Ali’s research interests include CALL, Teacher Education, and Educational Technologies. He is experienced in teaching English and training teachers.

Estephanie S. López Contreras, Washington State University

Estephanie S. López Contreras is a teaching assistant at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Technology. Mrs. López Contreras specializes in language-teaching methodologies and is passionate about supporting language learners in their language development in today’s multi-diverse classroom. Estephanie has experience teaching K-12 and working in governmental institutions.

Hassan Alwadei, Washington State University

Hassan Alwadei is a Ph.D. candidate in the Special Education Program at Washington State University. He holds a BA in Special Education (Learning Disability) and an MA in Special Education with a focus on inclusion from the University of Akron. Hassan is currently focused on the Multi-tier System of Support in his Ph.D. studies.
